Sandy Ptak of Anchorage Alaska is the new 2008-09 Miss Czech Slovak United States. Sandy is the daughter of Peter and Olga Ptak. She is will be a senior in the fall at Portland State University, double majoring in Business Management and Marketing. Sandy was an outstanding candidate for the pageant. She will be a great ambassador for the Czech and Slovak communities of the USA. Sandy not only was the overall title, she was the Grand Talent Winner, Miss Congeniality and won the Oratory Award. For Sandy’s talent she sang, in Czech, “I Drove All Night” by Celine Dion. Sandy is a first generation American. She is fluent in Czech, English and intermediate Spanish. In her spare time she enjoys horseback riding, reading about history and traveling. Sandy is the first contestant to ever represent Alaska. To contact Sandy, you can email her at sandyptak@yahoo.com.

I spent most of this month answering hundreds of emails and planning for my year to come. The first two weeks felt like Sunday night in Wilber, and the rest of the month the idea that I was Queen this year slowly sunk in. I would like to again thank everyone that went to support Czech Days and the pageant.
September
-September suddenly became a lot busier than I had anticipated. I was still planning appearances and emailing ideas and responses daily.
-17th I flew back to
-19th I attended a Polka Mass at St. Patrick’s Parish, which was a Catholic mass, I read a reading from the “big book” and there was a Polka dance afterwards.

-26th was the quarterly Czech-Alaska Society Polka Party where I showcased pictures from
-27th I attended and sang Polkas and Waltzes at the Alaska World Affairs Council Ball and Banquet.

December 2008 -13th- January , Christmas Break at home in -14th - Attended, performed, and was MC at the December Polka Party, sponsored by the Czech-Alaska Society. http://www.czechalaskasociety.org/ January/February 2009 I took 20 credits at school and spent my time looking for contestants and planning future events. There were no events during these months that I was aware of. March 2009 -Had Spring Break at home in -28th Attended, performed, and was MC at the Polka Party, sponsored by the Czech-Alaska Society. http://www.czechalaskasociety.org/ -31st Made it back to April 2009 -17th Trip to -18th -19th Czech Spring Fest, May 2009 -9th Washington, Over 2,500 eager visitors visited the Czech Embassy and, with the assistance of guides, toured the beautiful, unique residence of the Czech Ambassador. Czech girls, including Miss Czech-Slovak US 2008-2009 Sandy Ptak, wearing elaborate national costumes from the 1800’s greeted the guests while the popular band Ondras played traditional Czech folk music. The visitors viewed an exhibition featuring Czech UNESCO World Heritage sites, which present historical architectural gems in the Czech Republic, and an exclusive photography exhibit of the Spouses of the Ambassadors of the EU Diplomatic Missions to the US by photographer Abby Greenawalt. Moreover, visitors could learn about and purchase Bohemian crystal imported directly from the Czech Republic from the company, Topix Crystal Art. June 2009

6th- Portland Oregon Czech Society invited me for their anual picknick. I had nice welcome, was able to tell them about my Miss Czech-Slovak US pageant experience. Oregon is working on having their representative in 2009 for next Miss Czech-Slovak US

Nebraska - Judging state pageant in Clarkson, June 17th
Sandy Ptak wants to let you know that her Proclamation to the City
of Friend (Key to the city ceremony) officially scheduled for 6/16/09 at 6 pm at City Hall. The mayor, newspaper, & city board members will be present. We are opening this to the public & it will be in the Czech-Slovanti newspaper, Friend paper, & Wilber paper.
